Family Business Strauss

The main activity of the family business E. Strauss is the production and marketing of various wooden products and household items made from wood.

We offer over 700 types of wooden products, including sauna accessories, baskets, and household goods. We consider versatility and flexibility as one of our strengths: we can produce items in large quantities for export while also fulfilling custom orders for individual clients. Naturally, our greatest asset is our mastery of basket-making techniques. In addition to baskets, sauna buckets, boxes, trays, spoons, and platters, we can also make cabinet doors or lamp shades from wood shavings if necessary. E. Strauss’s painted products have also become a valued commodity. We can paint images on almost anything: a basket, a pair of wooden shoes, or a bowl.

Avinurme Wood Warehouse

Our main products are marketed to neighboring Finland. Products are also ordered from Sweden, Norway, Germany, and Japan. To increase our market share in Estonia and to better highlight Avinurme as a historic woodworking center, we opened a tourism center, Avinurme Puiduait, in June 2010.

E. Strauss is a family business that grew out of the former collective of folk art masters, UKU. The company was established in 1994 and is one of the oldest of its kind in Estonia. In addition to family members, around 20 artisans work in the Strauss workshop.

Our business is named after the family name Strauss. The “E” in front comes from our names: Enno, Eve, Eiki, Eero, and Eveli. Everyone has their own place and role in the family business.

Our products can be viewed at Avinurme Puiduait. In 2010, we built a separate building for displaying the products, as there was not enough space otherwise. In addition, we teach our visitors at Puiduait how to weave a proper Avinurme wooden basket. Besides workshops and a wide range of handicrafts, we also offer catering services for groups and lunch options at Puiduait. Puiduait is also an excellent venue for various events.
